Worship of Tools Day: Top 6 “Tools” Women Need To Tackle Life

Tools Day, a suspect national day of “worship”, is celebrated every March 11th. Described as “a guy thing”, as evidenced by the fact myth that “there are few things that the male population worships more than his tools” (a. who comes up with this stuff? and b. who writes it so poorly?), we wanted to throw a monkey wrench into the day since WE enjoy a useful tool as much as the next “guy”.

So we’re turning the hammer wielding holiday on its testosterone laden a** by celebrating the Top 6 “tools” women need to tackle life (figuratively AND literally).

Figuratively Speaking…

Tool #1: Confidence

Having firm trust and belief in herself is the most powerful tool a woman can use to tackle just about anything life throws her way.

Tool #2: Determination

Willpower, spirit, and grit go a long way in keeping a woman on track, no matter what her destination, end game or goal.

Tool #3: Passion

When you don’t love what you do or who you are doing it with, life feels more like a tedious job than the exhilarating (and challenging) adventure it should be.

Tool #4: Gusto

Taking a page out of the Norma “Toolbelt Diva” Vally playbook of life, approaching anything (even home improvements) with enthusiasm and zest is the easiest way to build your sense of self and accomplishment. This is the “I kick ass” tool.

Tool #5: Courage

No fear concept

Often one of the hardest things to summon when faced with pain, adversity, grief, or downright scary sh*t, it’s the light that can lead you out of the darkest places to new beginnings. Armed with this tool, how satisfying to know that you took fear by the balls and gave it all you had.

Let’s Get Literal…

For the record, we have NOTHING against actual tools. In fact, we LOVE tools and believe every woman should know the basics of home maintenance and repairs. It’s the reason we  launched our Fix-It Friday column with home improvement pro Norma “Toolbelt Diva” Vally. It’s also why we asked her…

in the realm of “tool worship”, what’s the one, single most important tool everyone (women and men) should own? Our #6 tool is her pick:

Tool #6: Gerber Compact Sport – Multi-Plier 400

Gerber Compact-Sport-Multi-Plier-400

Norma tells us, “If I had to pick just ONE tool above all others it would have to be my Gerber Compact Sport – Multi-Plier 400 Stainless w/ Sheath because it’s actually 12 tools in one and so compact I can wear it right on my belt. I have one in my car, wear it on jobs, and always take it with me when I travel.”

She added, “You should see the looks I get when I happen to have it tossed in my bag and I’m out to dinner… and I pull it out to reshape bent fork tines.”

And THIS is just one of the many reasons we love her!
