Well-Read Women: Portraits of Fiction’s Most Beloved Heroines

Last year we introduced you to illustrator Lisa Congdon and writer Maria Popova’s creative collaboration, The Reconstructionists, a yearlong celebration of remarkable women who shaped the world and our place in it. It is one of WYSK’s all-time favorite creative endeavors celebrating women’s history.

Inspired by The Reconstructionists project, New York-based painter and fashion illustrator Samantha Hahn gives us Well-Read Women: Portraits of Fiction’s Most Beloved Heroines. The book features 50 lush and ethereal watercolor portraits of literature’s most well-read female characters including: Jane Eyre, Anna Karenina, Holly Golightly, and Clarissa Dalloway. Each portrait is paired with a memorable quote from the character, resulting in an absolutely stunning combination of art and literature.

Missed this because of the holiday. These are just great. She could do a magnet art series. They’d sell well to the kind of woman (me) who totally fell for the series with 50’s housewife quips….
