12.18 million viewers tuned in on Sunday to watch Fox’s production of Grease Live. While most were dazzled by what they were seeing – a cast of over 650 dancers and extras singing and dancing across 21 sets – what was happening behind the scenes to orchestrate the 3-hour spectacular was pretty spectacular, in and of itself.
The show’s Associate Director, Carrie Havel, posted this video, which was shot inside the control room during the “Greased Lightning” scene. Listen and be blown away as this woman calls the shots, quite literally, in time and on beat with the fast paced music.
“Every shot in the show was designed and scripted by our director Alex Rudzinski. My job was to execute that plan. You hear me calling shot numbers and camera moves carefully coordinated with the music. My head stays in the script and Alex, to my right, keeps an eye on cameras to adjust framing and pacing.” – Carrie Havel, via Facebook
