“I can shovel my own snow. And I can push my car if it gets stuck in the snow… I’m almost 80 years old and I am still living life.”

Meet Willie Murphy, a 77-year-old grandmother and… powerlifter!

As the Democrat & Chronicle’s Erica Bryant reported, “In addition to lifting more than twice her weight, Murphy can do one-handed pull-ups, one-handed pushups, fingertip pushups, and the pushups where you put your fingers in diamond formation and press your nose all the way to the floor.”

Weighing just 105 pounds, Willie recently deadlifted 215 pounds at the World Natural Powerlifting Federation Championships in Atlanta and came home with a trunkload of trophies: deadlift competition division title, first-place awards in power curl, bench press, and bench press repetitions, as well as the WNPF 2014 Lifter of the Year award.

We should also mention that Willie is self-taught and self-trained, having started with 5-pound weights only four years ago… so at age 73.

Go, Granny go!
