2011 has been a truly amazing year for the Women You Should Know team. We spent 75% of the year building the site, fine tuning our mission and breathing life into this community about dynamic women. Then, on September 7th, we went live. Only five days out of the gate, The Huffington Post gave us an incredible endorsement by syndicating our coverage of Women First Responder of 9/11 on September 11th. We were honored.

In the days and weeks that have followed, it has been our privilege to profile some really incredible women and cover all sorts of interesting topics for you. Along the way and over 80 posts later, we’ve made new friends, we are constantly inspired by women from all walks of life and we learn something every day. Most importantly, we continue to grow our community thanks to the interest and support of our fantastic readers. We are grateful to each of you.

As the year winds down, we’re taking a look back at the last four months and highlighting some of our favorite WYSKs of 2011. We can’t wait to see who and what 2012 brings. Happy New Year to all!

Brenda Berkman: One of New York City’s first women firefighters, 9/11 first responder, retired FDNY Captain, printmaker

Gina Davis: Owner & Head Winemaker, Davis Creek Cellars – Snake River Valley, Idaho

Janie Bryant: Emmy Award Winning costume designer, mastermind behind the signature look and historically accurate style of AMC’s hit TV series, Mad Men

Sheryl Yvette: Award winning blogger, advocate for and proud member of Weight Watchers, health enthusiast, avid cyclist (on her pink Hello Kitty cruiser)

Five terrific stories, but so many more. One of my favorites is the series of chefs and recipes you wrote about for Thanksgiving. Keep up the good work!

  • JA

All such great ladies. If you are taking nominations for 2012, I’d like to submit my Mom… she’s my favorite WYSK for so many different reasons. :)

  • Millie A

To all of my new WYSK friends. I have not personally met all of you, but I already know you because of all of the wonderful stories about each of you. Let’s keep it going for 2012. A Happy and Very Healthy New Year to each of you.

I think the editors of WYSK should top the list of 2011 notables. Well done, ladies! Looking forward to what you have in store for us in the new year.
