We don’t usually feature celebrities on Women You Should Know, but Mayim Bialik isn’t just a celebrity, she is also a neuroscientist. In this video, which is part of PBS’s NOVA series The Secret Life of Scientists, Mayim talks about her commitment to the advancement of science and the importance of being a female scientist role model, both on television and in real life.

In addition to her role on the popular series The Big Bang Theory, Mayim is also a science educator, author and lecturer, and is the official spokesperson for Texas Instruments graphing calculators. Now that’s pretty cool!

If you can see it you can be it, and Mayim personifies that message to young women in all aspects of her life, making her a STEM star you should know!

I never really watched Blossom when it was aired, nor have I watched the Big Bang Theory. Having watched Mayim’s video I am fascinated that this actress has had two totally different and separate careers, the two of which couldn’t be more far apart. She is a definite role model for young girls and women. I hope every girl gets a chance to view her video because she makes science sound like so much fun. Great stuff!
