‘Tis the season for visits with relatives, friends, and neighbors. And with them can come awkward conversations, conversations that for countless women (married, partnering, dating, whatevering) inevitably include the question… “When are you having kids?” So in prep for this, two-time Emmy Award-winning illustrator Loryn Brantz came up with 7 brilliant, hilarious, and awesome responses to drop on the well-intentioned or just plain nosy, procreation priers in your life.
1. Deflect the conversation to baby goats.
2. Tell them about your soon to be delivered burrito baby.
Loryn Brantz is a one-woman force of extraordinary creative talent… animation, illustration, design, prop and puppet building (she won 2 Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Costume, Design, and Styling for “Sesame Street”), concept development, art direction and graphic design. Her client list includes HarperCollins, PBS, and Facebook, and she’s currently on staff at BuzzFeed writing and illustrating “about stuff and things.”
Loryn has authored and illustrated three children’s books: Not Just a Dot (Sky Pony Press – September 2014); Harvey the Child Mime (Hometown 520LLC – 2010), for which she earned the Moonbeam Children’s Book Award for Best First Picture Book; and the forthcoming Feminist Baby, available for pre-order now and due out April 11, 2017 with Disney-Hyperion. In this “wildly fun and eye-opening” rhyming board book, Loryn’s Feminist Baby tells the young reader (ages 0-2) how she unapologetically likes to live her life.
