On Tuesday, the Food and Drug Administration approved the first drug designed to “enhance sexual desire” in women. But the little pink pill is at the center of big controversy. Some are claiming it’s a victory in the battle for women’s sexual health equity, while others are criticizing the FDA for approving a drug that is minimally effective, and can have some significant side effects and health implications for those who take the pill.

“…I will be convinced forever that it [FDA approval] came about as the result of a brilliant marketing campaign, and not as the result of good science.” – Cindy Pearson, Executive Director, National Women’s Health Network

Think Progress investigated the controversy and released the below video, The Truth Behind the “Female Viagra,” which explores the drug’s public relations campaign Even The Score, and offers perspectives from doctors and advocates for and against the pill.

Clearly there are still a lot of questions to be asked and answered.

We’d like to hear what you think.
