With less than two weeks left until Election Day, nearly half of American voters are experiencing election-related stress.
A recent survey by the American Psychological Association (APA) found that regardless of political affiliation, 52% of American adults say the 2016 election is a significant source of stress in their lives.
“We’re seeing that it doesn’t matter whether you’re registered as a Democrat or Republican — U.S. adults say they are experiencing significant stress from the current election,” said Lynn Bufka, PhD, APA’s associate executive director for practice research and policy.
People around the country are dealing with this tension in their own ways, our go-to stress reliever involves one of our favorite childhood activities… coloring.
Research has shown that coloring elicits a relaxing mindset, similar to what you would achieve through meditation. Like mediation, coloring allows us to switch off our brains from other thoughts and focus on the moment.
While coloring may not cure us, if only for a short time, it does help block out negative thoughts.
