Applying Makeup Can Be Deadly

Nearly HALF of women apply makeup while behind the wheel… are you one of them? According to insurers, it is estimated that as many as 500,000 road crashes a year are caused by women drivers being distracted while applying makeup.

To put this into perspective, according to the National Safety Council, texting is the cause of 1.6 million crashes a year.

Mascara and lipstick were the most commonly applied products by commuters, which have become the center of a public service campaign by KIA Canada. The campaign was released following other powerful PSA videos launched by MINI Cooper and Volkswagen warning women of the dangers of applying while driving.

KIA’s jarring images have been met with some controversy,  with many citing the campaign as sexist. Although the ads may be over the top, the message couldn’t be any clearer “Applying Makeup While Driving Can Be Deadly” -  it’s kind of hard to argue with that.

Actually, let the ads be controversial. Putting on makeup while driving should never be done. Any female that does this should be ticketed if seen by a cop. This is just a disaster waiting to happen – both to the woman and to others.
